Apple has launched its new iOS 11 and MAC OS High Sierra , and announced a number of new features and changes at WWDC 2017 this year. It’s interesting !!
1.)Apple Pay – One significant feature has been added , now apple users can send and receive payments. what they call is person to person payment . and its right integrated into iMessages and apple watch too.
And apple claims to attract 50% of US Retailers will be accepting apple pay by end of 2017.
2.)Siri – Siri is now more advanced with its Artificial Technology improvement which enables siri to create more natural and expressive voice, you will see how siri can now speaks same word with different emotions , depending upon the context.
Siri translation can be a game changer for travellers , but right now Only 6 languages have been added to translate from English to Chinese,German,Italian,Spainish. But yet more to do to beat google translation(but its still not on voice i guess, i.e advantage for apple. siri)
SiriKit has been added features to integrate it with more types of apps task management , Mobile banking , QR code etc. developers should explore it now.
3.)Camera – There has always been complaint from users regarding video’s eating too much storage with H.264 Videos, now iOS 11 will use HEVC High efficiency video with 2x better compression will be great for space utilization and photo capture also changed from Jpeg to HIF and will be compatible across platforms.
Also major enhancements has been done in Memories and Live photos.For Developers new Depth API have been introduced.
4.)Control Centre – Some Re- Design has been done.Now when you swipe up , its a single page that includes all features.
The lock screen and notification center are now the same screen. When you swipe down from the top of the screen, you’ll see all your notifications. You can still swipe to the left to access your widgets or the right to access your camera.
5.) Apple Maps – Some Improvement in Navigation , but the major introduction is now you can See Detailed Navi when ever you are in some Malls , Airports – Floor Plans , directions & Search , Browse By Floor etc.
But currently few airports have been added.but will be adding as time goes by 🙂
6.)Do Not Disturb While driving – iOS 11 includes a new “Do Not Disturb While Driving” feature that uses Bluetooth or Wi-Fi to determine whether you’re driving. It will automatically hide your notifications if you are (though you can tell the iPhone you’re not driving if you want notifications to show up).
The Messages app can even automatically auto-respond to people who text you, saying that you’re driving and can’t respond right now. They can text you to say it’s urgent if they need you to respond as soon as possible.
7.) Music and ALL – Apple Music ,HomeKit , Airplay 2 –
HomeKit is gaining a new Speaker category, which will allow speakers to be controlled from the Home app, and with a new AirPlay2. feature, multi-room audio is available. Speakers with AirPlay 2 support can be controlled using Control Center, the Home app, or Siri.
You can now also play audio to your Apple TV from your iOS device or Mac, enabling those speakers connected to your media center to become AirPlay speakers.
Apple Music –
Apple Music will now show you what your friends are listening to, so you can more easily discover new music you might want to listen to. You can create a profile, make it public or private, and follow people with similar taste.
Developers will have a MusicKit for Apple Music API they can use to gain full access to Apple Music, too. For example, Shazam can automatically add songs it identifies to your Apple Music collection, and DJ apps can provide access to the entire Apple Music library, Similarly (Nike + Run) .
AR KIT – Augmented Reality is now a thing . Apple has introducing an ARKit SDK that’s designed to help developers build high-quality AR experiences and games to the iPhone and iPad. ARKit takes advantage of the processors and motion sensors in iOS devices to build virtual content that can be placed atop real-world scenes for purposes like interactive gaming, immersive shopping, industrial design, and more.
Besides aforementioned features there are some more features have also been added such as :
improvement in many iOS Core Technologies
iPad – Many MultiTasking features. and File System for iPAd.
App Store is Re-designed
Phased Release – This is interesting feature for developers/Production houses where they can mention features, with future release. its a new thing , need to explore it .
